Texas Discovery Gardens

The Texas Discovery Gardens first opened in 1936 as the Hall of Horticulture for the Texas Centennial Exposition. After a brief stint serving as a headquarters for the War Rationing Board during World War II, the gardens reopened to the public in 1952. Nearly seven decades and several name changes later, the gardens are now one of Dallas’ most cherished outdoor space.

Today, the Texas Discovery Gardens span over 7.5 acres and include the Rosine Smith Sammons Butterfly House and Insectarium. The gardens are dedicated to organic, sustainable gardening practices and serve as a site where children and adults alike can learn about sustainable methods to bring beauty to the natural world around us, conserve water and other resources, and help to protect the environment.
