The Miracle Worker

What: Based on Helen Keller’s autobiography, “The Miracle Worker” portrays Keller’s relationship with her governess Annie Sullivan. Born with an illness that rendered Keller deaf, blind, and consequently mute, Keller was pitied and badly spoiled by her parents which led to her growing into a wild, angry, tantrum-throwing child in control of the household. In hopes of calming their child, the Kellers hire Sullivan as her governess and teacher. After fierce battles with Keller, Sullivan convinces the girl’s parents to give her two weeks alone with the child where she manages to teach Keller discipline and language through sheer persistence and consistency.
