fort worth parade of lights

A week off of school and family in town means plenty of people in DFW are looking for fun activities and ways to blow off some steam. There are plenty of things to see and do in Dallas and Fort Worth but this week is meant for the best!

Here are some of the Best Things to Do for Thanksgiving Week in DFW:

Fort Worth Parade of Lights

This evening parade kicks off Thanksgiving Week on November 24th at 6 pm. There will be over 100 floats, all lit up in holiday fashion. Admission is free but you’ll want to spring for the good seats- they’re just $14.95 and up!

Dallas YMCA Turkey Trot

This annual event has races for everyone! There is a run/walk event, a Junior Trot, the Roost, and a Holiday 5K series. Each race has its own registration fee and requirements. Burn off the turkey, or make room! The Turkey Trot is going down Thanksgiving Day.

The Dallas Cowboys

The boys are playing two games this week and there are plenty of ways to watch. If you can’t score tickets to the game, don’t worry. Local bars and restaurants are holding watch parties, plus you can tailgate or game at home!

Holiday Market & Tree Lighting at Toyota Music Factory

See the 30-foot tall Christmas tree light up to kick off the holiday season! There will also be a holiday market where you can do all of your Christmas shopping while enjoying live music, cookies, and hot chocolate. You can also get photos with Santa! The fun takes place Saturday, November 30th with the market open from 12-8 pm and the lighting taking place at 8 pm. RSVP for free tickets.

Visit a Brewery

Most Breweries offer fun and educational tours for the public. Grab a beer and explore how the brewery operates. Community Beer Company and Deep Ellum Brewery each offers tours on Saturdays. Four Corners has tours available both Saturday and Sunday! You can learn about beer, history, and science all in one!

Fort Worth Stockyards

Take a step back in time without leaving town! The Fort Worth Stockyards has a cattle drive twice a day, every day. You can also catch a rodeo every Friday and Saturday. Dance your heart out with Stoney LaRue live, in concert. There will be special Holiday showings of Pawnee Bill’s Wild West Show. A little something for everyone!

Dallas Symphony Orchestra

The DSO has two awesome shows going on Thanksgiving Week. On November 24, see the Vienna Boys Choir in concert. Starting November 27, you won’t want to miss Harry Potter & The Sorcerer’s Stone!

Visit the Theatre

Dallas and Fort Worth are both rife with creatives, from musicians to actors to dancers! Watch Blue Man Group at Bass Hall, Stage West is putting on The Lifespan of a Fact, or catch a family-friendly performance with free tickets to the Opera when you bring a canned food good for donation! {Select performances only}.

Community Thanksgiving

Many local churches and outreach organizations are hosting free dinners and potlucks for the community. Even if you have a family to cook for, you can take some time to visit with your neighbors. You can also volunteer to help serve in the spirit of giving! Find plenty of events in our Guide to Thanksgiving Volunteer Opportunities in DFW.
