RVshare lessons main

My family has frequently discussed the idea of hopping in an RV and going on an epic road trip. Like a lot of families, we realized that this summer would be the perfect time to give it a shot. Together, we piled in an RV and hit the open road. When friends and family learned about our trip, they naturally had a lot of questions. The first thing we told them was that we were so happy that we decided to do this, and we couldn’t wait to do it again. We rented the RV we used from RVShare and will use them again when we rent again. Here are some tips that we learned throughout the process. We hope they help you as much as they helped us.

Ask Tons of Questions

Renting an RV for the First Time? Here's What You Should Know

Vacations are always exciting, but RV vacations are a little bit different. Most people understand how to get on a plane and stay in a hotel. You usually won’t have many questions about that. When it comes to renting an RV, you will likely have plenty of questions. Not only that, once you’re finally in the RV and the vacation is getting started, there is going to be a slight transition period where you get adjusted to your new living space. With this in mind, the thing to remember is that there is no question too small. You’ll save yourself so much time and frustration by asking every question that comes to your mind. The owner renting your RV will be happy to answer your questions because they want you to have a great time and be comfortable on your vacation.

Give Yourself Time to Get Used to Things

If you’ve never been in an RV or travelled in one, it’s going to take a little getting used to. We were excited right from the jump. However, when we got on the road, we weren’t fully comfortable in our space for about the first day or two. This is typical because there are a lot of spaces and features in an RV and we needed time to get used to our new space and how we fit into it. After that short period, we were all doing great and having a good time. And next time it will be an even easier process. It’s not that travelling in an RV is difficult, because it’s not. You just need to do a few things and get used to them. You’ll be surprised how easy things like hooking up at campsites will be once you’ve done it once or twice!

Map Out your Vacation as Much as Possible

Looking back, one thing that we really overlooked was the idea of height and/or size limitations on the roads and anywhere we wanted to stop. We tried to plan out many of our stops, but on our next vacation I will pay more attention to any type of height requirements or obstacles that might slow down our trip. It’s also good to look out for road closures ahead of time so you can avoid any pitfalls that might take you off your path.

Consider Some Alternate Transportation

Obviously, everyone’s family vacation is going to look different based on your family’s needs and interest. For us, we wanted to be able to travel in luxury and to stay at campsites, but once there we wanted to use more traditional transportation for our daily activities. Some people will rely on taxis and Uber, which will work for a lot of things. You might also consider renting or bringing some bikes with you or renting a smaller car in the city where you’re camping. This just ensures that you can get where you want to go as quickly and easily as possible.

RV’s Make Camping Easier

Renting an RV for the First Time? Here's What You Should Know

I will admit it, I’m not a big camping fan. Well, I wasn’t before I did it in an RV. I was honestly quite surprised at how relaxing and fun this trip would be. I knew the kids would love it, but I wasn’t expecting to feel as relaxed as I was during the trip. RV parks offer a safe and peaceful vacation option. The people we met were friendly and the scenery made those evening cookouts even more enjoyable.

We definitely recommend taking the plunge and renting an RV if you’re curious. Our family adventure was one of the most memorable to date and we look forward to doing it again, soon. Whether you need a weekend or a month away, an RV is an excellent way to recharge and relax in luxury. You can even have an RV delivered straight to your campground destination if you don’t feel comfortable driving it!
