Baseball fans have been anxiously awaiting Opening Day, so it was disappointing to learn that we’re going to have to wait longer than planned. The entire MLB including the Texas Rangers are on hold while officials determine the safe road to take during the coronavirus scare. Currently the plan is that Spring Training is cancelled, and the MLB season postponement will last for an additional two weeks. Opening day was meant to happen on March 26. What does the MLB Season postponement mean for the Texas Rangers? Yesterday the MLB commissioner made a decision with other MLB officials to stop Spring Training and to push back the regular season from March 26 to at least April 9. This two-week postponement could end up being longer, but for now the plan is just no games for the next month. As with all other recent sports postponements, the reason for the delay in the Rangers season is because of the coronavirus.
Is the MLB season canceled for the 2020 season? No. For now, Spring Training is cancelled early. The 2020 World Baseball Classic Qualifier is also cancelled. The regular season is still in the works. That said, the MLB season postponement will move Opening Day from March 26 to April 9, or later.
What if I have Opening Day Rangers tickets? In most cases, you will be compensated for the ticket you can’t use, or you’ll be given credit for a future game. However, details are still unfolding and there doesn’t seem to be a universal plan as to what will happen for current ticketholders. Stub Hub is offering refunds for the tickets that were purchased through Stub Hub. Otherwise, it could depend on where you purchased your tickets or for what team. It seems like most people will either get credit for a future game when the season starts, or you’ll receive a refund.
Are the postponed games going to be rescheduled? At this point, there hasn’t been any word on future plans for the Rangers MLB season. Some options could include a shorter season, the addition of double headers to make up for lost time, or rescheduled games to create a longer season. Once a decision is made, we’ll be sure to update you on the plan for the season.
What if I had tickets to postponed games? The season isn’t being cancelled at this point, so there’s no need to be too worried. If you have tickets for a game that’s going to be rescheduled, you will likely be compensated. It appears that most teams or ticket services will be offering credit for a future game once the season is back on or a refund.
