Here’s three fun, free and cheap events happening in DFW this weekend:
Southlake Oktoberfest – stroll around Southlake Town Square this weekend and celebrate fall with this free, fun festival. Hear live entertainment, get food, and let your kids play in the children’s area. On Oct. 1, the hours are 5-11 p.m., Oct 2nd – 10 a.m. to 11 p.m., and Oct. 3 – 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. Visit the Southlake Chamber website for more info.
Lake Worth Monster Bash – come to the Fort Worth Nature Center and Refuge (9601 Fossil Ridge Rd.) on Oct. 2 for a festival in honor of the Lake Worth Monster, a hairy, 7-foot-tall man/goat/beast who was supposedly seen around Lake Worth regularly in the 1960s. Celebrate the legend at this event, which includes bison viewing, canoeing, storytelling, live music, and guided hikes. Admission: kids 3 and under are free; kids 3-17 are $2, seniors are $3 and adults are $4.
Frisco Roughriders Pumpkin Patch – on Oct 2 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., the Frisco Roughriders Ballpark will be transformed into a pumpkin patch. Families can enjoy seasonal activities, face painting and free bratwurst from Bob Evans (while supplies last). Take home a pumpkin for just $3. The ballpark is at 7300 Roughriders Trail.
Fall Harvest Festival at Calloway’s Nursery – On Oct. 2 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., take part in this special free event. Kids can enjoy a mini Farmers Market, fun Scarecrow Village, and free pumpkin decorating. Calloway’s is at 2651 S. Hulen, but this event is going on at all Calloway’s locations in DFW.
Fort Worth Flying Saucer Beer Festival – On Saturday from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m. $20 gets you a 10-beer sampling card and you keep the tasting glass. Lots of different brews will be on tap. It’s in the Saucer parking lot in Sundance Square.
