As more and more businesses and events are shutdown due to coronavirus, fear of blood shortage grows. To help meet demands, the American Red Cross is putting on two blood drives today, Tuesday the 31st. And Governor Charlie Baker is urging all who are healthy to donate blood if they can.
“Because we are now living in a time of extraordinary social distancing… it’s critical that we understand and recognize that, one way or another, we all need to bend a little bit to figure out how to make sure, God forbid, some friend of ours, some neighbor, some family member ends up in the hospital and needs blood… that the blood will be there to serve them,” Baker said.
The first drive is taking place at Ferrari of New England dealership in Norwood. The drive runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The second drive will begin at 12:15 p.m. and will last until 6:45 p.m. This drive takes place at the Dedham Blood Donation Center.
Due to coronavirus, blood drive cancellations have grown exponentially. This has led to losing nearly 86,000 donations.
