Blue Star Museums program provides free museum admission to active-duty military personnel and their families, including National Guard and Reserve members. It is the result of a collaboration between the National Endowment for the Arts and Blue Star Families, working in partnership with the Department of Defense and museums across the country!
The 2022 Blue Star Museums program began on May 21, 2022, on Armed Forces Day, and will culminate on September 5, 2022, on Labor Day. Below is a list of 9 wonderful Blue Star Museums in the Boston area that military personnel can take advantage of!

The Mary Baker Eddy Library
The Mary Baker Eddy Library is a research library, museum, and repository for Mary Baker Eddy’s papers, the Christian Science founder’s writings. The Mapparium, a three-story stained-glass globe that allows visitors to stand within a globe showing the world of 1934, is one of the library’s displays, along with the archive for Mary Baker Eddy’s correspondence and manuscripts.

Gibson House Museum
In Boston’s historic Back Bay area, the Gibson House Museum is a private, nonprofit house museum. Between 1859 and 1954, the mansion was home to three generations of Gibson family members and their housekeeping workers. The Gibson House Museum is an excellent landmark to go to learn about and interpret a century of life in Boston’s Back Bay.

The Institute of Contemporary Art

John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum
The John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum is dedicated to the memory of our nation’s 35th president, as well as to all those who seek a new and better world through the art of politics. The Library, which stands on a ten-acre park overlooking the sea that he loved and the city that propelled him to glory, is a vivid homage to John F. Kennedy’s life and times.

Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum
The Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum is a Boston, Massachusetts-based art museum that includes important works of European, Asian, and American art. Paintings, sculptures, tapestries, and decorative arts are among the works on display.

Shirley-Eustis House
The mansion, which was built in 1747 as a vacation residence for Governor William Shirley, was flanked by terraced gardens, a small creek, and huge apple orchards. The grounds are open during the day, and the Mansion and Carriage House are open for tours from June to Labor Day. Outside of those hours, visitors are welcome to schedule a tour.

Loring Greenough House
Commodore Joshua Loring built the Loring Greenough House in 1760, and the Greenough family owned it from 1783 to 1924. The Jamaica Plain Tuesday Club bought the home in 1924 and has remained the custodian since then. In 2008, the club defined the House’s new community-oriented function as a hub for social, cultural, historical, and educational events.

William Hickling Prescott House
The Headquarters House, also known as the William Hickling Prescott House, is a historic house museum on Beacon Hill in Boston, Massachusetts. It is situated at 55 Beacon Street. The townhouse, designed by Asher Benjamin and erected in 1808, was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1964 because of its connection to William Hickling Prescott (1796–1859), one of America’s earliest historians.

Museum of Fine Arts, Boston
The Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, Massachusetts, is an art museum. In terms of public exhibition space, it is the world’s 20th largest art museum. It is one of the most extensive collections in the Americas, with 8,161 paintings and over 450,000 items of art.

Museum of Science

Nichols House Museum
Dr. Arthur Nichols and his wife Elizabeth bought a home on Beacon Hill in 1885, and their three daughters grew up to be designers, authors, and social activists. Rose Standish Nichols inherited the land in 1930. The Nichols House Museum is open to the public for tours, lectures, programs, and special events today.
