It looks like plastic bags are making a comeback in the city of Boston amidst the coronavirus outbreak. The temporary order applies to all essential businesses, which include grocery stores, pharmacies, and convenient stores.
“We lifted the ban because, in some cases, we’re hearing that they’re running out of bags,” Walsh told reporters Wednesday at City Hall. “It’s just the ability to get people in and out of the stores as quickly as possible.”
Boston is not alone in moving back to plastic bags. Other locations, like New Hampshire, are banning reusable shopping bags, as they may present a risk of spreading coronavirus to baggers, grocers, and customers. The feeling is that single use bags will be less likely to harbor contagions.
If you’re worried about fees for using plastic bags from the store – don’t. There will be no added fees for doing so.
