Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum: Behind the Scenes: Restoring the Titian Room and Europa

In early August, the museum will feature the exhibit The Rape of Europa which will be the highlight of the cultural centre’s Titian Room. This museum event in July will take you through the restoration of the room where conservationist Holly Salmon will talk about all the restoration work undertaken and share some exciting behind-the-scenes pictures of the project! Holly will be joined by Gianfranco Pocobene who will go on to discuss the restoration of Europa, one of Titian’s masterpieces and what this painting revealed about the artist’s techniques.

During this virtual summer experience enjoy fascinating discussions on volcanoes, crystals, fossils and so much more! The summer camp that stretches through July will explore the earth, the textures of its land, the different types of rocks found on the planet and the hot lava that spurts out of volcanoes. This is a virtual museum experience tailormade for children to learn and have fun from the comfort of home.

At this museum exhibit coming up in Boston in July, locate the works of artist Ekua Holmes whose communist activity and body of work explores different themes like childhood, family, memories and resilience. Holmes was the only student of colour when she attended the Elma Lewis School of Fine Arts and the studio classes at MFA. Her work that will be displayed through this exhibit is an invitation to gaze into her life and into her experiences of isolation and friendships.

In this session of the online series, explore the gallery of George Abrams who is known as a great collector of historical Dutch drawings. George’s focus for this session will be on the techniques, functions and themes of Dutch paintings from the 16th to the 18th century. This is a wonderful opportunity for you to glimpse at masterpieces by some of the greatest Dutch painters of all time including Pieter Bruegel the Elder, Rembrandt and Adriaen van Ostade among others.
