After the heatwave Boston has been experiencing this week, we’re all looking for the best beaches in and near the city to jump in and cool off. 1. Carson Beach, South Boston

Carson Beach is one of the easiest beaches to get to in Boston. This public beach can be accessed by the MBTA (an easy walk from the Andrew Station stop on the Red Line). With an expansive beachfront, often you’ll see volleyball nets set up and other beach activities. Don’t forget to treat yourself to Molly Moo’s ice cream, located on the boardwalk at the top of the beach.
2.Spectacle Island, Boston Harbor Islands
Half the fun of visiting Spectacle Island is taking the ferry there. Spectacle Island is located 4 miles offshore of downtown Boston, and is a perfect location for swimming, biking, and exploring. The ferry runs multiple times a day, and costs $25 round-trip for adults, $23 for seniors, and $18 for children.
3.Nantasket Beach, Hull

Looking to really get out of the city? Hull’s Nantasket Beach is the perfect spot that’s close enough, but just far enough away to make it feel like a true escape. With a bathhouse and restrooms, you can truly stay all day. You can get to Nantasket without a car, using the commuter rail and a bus, or taking a ride share service.
4.Wollaston Beach, Quincy
This public beach near Boston is actually one of the biggest ones in the Boston Harbor. Not only is it the biggest, but it also has free parking. It’s a popular local hangout in the warmer months and has a few ice cream shops and restaurants nearby.

5.Crane Beach, Ipswich

This beach is open year-round and includes a refreshment bar, restrooms, showers and changing facilities. While free to Ipswich residents, if you are visiting for the day, you will have to pay a fee to enter. After your beach day, make sure to visit the lavish Castle Hill mansion nearby.
6.Nahant Beach, Nahant
This beach also serves as a nature reserve. Located on a peninsula, it’s a great option for a family beach day, given the plentiful and close parking lot. Be sure to get here early to secure your parking.
7. Plum Island, Newburyport
A barrier island, Plum Island is a popular beach destination for those in Boston. Named for the beach plum shrubs that grow in the dunes of this island, Plum Island has clean, sandy beaches to enjoy. The island is easy to access via Newburyport.
8. Revere Beach, Revere
Just five miles north of the city sits Revere Beach. If you’re looking to get to the beach, stat, this is the beach for you. Revere Beach also has a great history, as in 1896, it became the first public beach in the United States.

9. Orient Heights Beach, East Boston
Free parking, close to Boston, and bathrooms are just a few things that make Orient Heights Beach great. Sit on the beach and enjoy the beauty of the Boston skyline from this beach.
10. Lynn Park Beach, Lynn
Lynn Park Beach is a great place to enjoy a day in the sun, and take a walk around the 3-mile paved path. During your beach day, you may also catch some live music.
