Attention Dallas residents: If your family qualifies, you may be able to get free school supplies through the Mayor’s Back-to-School Fair, scheduled for Aug. 5 this year.
The fair, which is in its 14th year, provides school supplies, health screenings and other services. This year’s fair will be Aug. 5 at Fair Park in Dallas, in the Automobile and Centennial buildings, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. To get the school supplies, you must have kids ages 5 to 18, be a resident of the city of Dallas, and meet the federal poverty guidelines with regards to your income. You must also pre-register for the event. Find the pre-registration form here. This also has a list of pre-registration events, at which you can drop off the form. The form can also be mailed in. Don’t forget to include proof of residency and income. Forms must be received by July 31, so don’t delay in filling one out.
If you pre-register on time, you are guaranteed to receive school supplies, as long as you show up before 3 p.m.
If you’re not a Dallas resident, or you don’t meet income guidelines, you can still come to the fair and take advantage of the other services, like free vision screenings, health screenings, free toothbrushes and toothpaste, and free immunizations. Free haircuts will also be provided by the Ogle School and by Cedric B’s.
