photo mlk_zpsc10d3a36.jpgMartin Luther King Jr.’s birthday is Jan. 15, and most places are observing it on Monday, Jan. 19. However, there are a few other celebrations on other dates in honor of Dr. King, including:

Fort Worth MLK Celebration – at noon on Friday, Jan. 16 in Council Chambers at City Hall (1000 Throckmorton). The public is invited. The theme is “Bringing His Dream to Life.” Keynote speaker is attorney L. Clifford Davis, who specializes in probate and real estate law. Master of ceremonies will be human rights advocate Estrus Tucker. The event will include live entertainment, music, vendors and more.

MLK Multicultural Festival – Saturday, Jan. 17 at TCC Southeast Campus in Arlington (2100 Southeast Parkway). Free admission. Music, food and dance performances.

MLK Day Parade – Monday, Jan. 19 – Kicks off at 11 a.m. at 9th & Commerce streets in Fort Worth. See complete route here.

MLK Rally – in Sundance Square immediately following parade. Features step groups, dancers, high school bands and other area performers. Free.

Arlington MLK Day of Service – Monday, Jan. 19 at 9 a.m. Meet at UT Arlington Maverick Activity Center (5oo Nedderman Dr.) for assignments.

MLK Youth Musical Extravaganza – Monday, Jan. 19 at Fielder Road Baptist Church in Arlington (1323 W. Pioneer Pkwy) at 6:30 p.m. Free. Features 500-voice elementary choir, soloists and more.
