Monday, June 25 is the kickoff of a weeklong Summer Employee Craft Demonstration at the Bureau of Engraving & Printing in Fort Worth. Bring the family to their Western Currency Facility anytime during visiting hours (Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.) from June 25-29, tour the facility, and take part in the following special activities:
- Witness Intaglio engraving artisanship at the engraver’s workbench
- Learn about plate-making for offset printing presses
- See mutilated currency reconstructed piece by piece
- See how currency was printed circa 1900 at the refurbished spider press
- Learn how Intaglio printing plates are “grown” in a nickel solution
- Enjoy educational activities at the Kid$ Corral
The tour and activities are free. All of these activities happen throughout the day, with the exception of Kid$ Corral activities, which take place from 9 a.m. to noon and 1-4 p.m. No reservations are needed for groups under 10 people, but groups of 10 or more are encouraged to call the facility at 817-231-4000 ahead of time.
These events will be repeated from July 23-27, if you can’t make it in June.
